Bimasakti, a women’s cooperative in Giriloyo village, was founded in 1982. This cooperative represents women working together in the traditional batik industry. With funding from UNESCO in 1982, the Department of Industry taught these women how to process the cloth they waxed to produce products that they could sell. With these skills, they were able to market their own products.

Led by Bu Hartinah, this group, managed by eight women, supports approximately 30 craftswomen.  Besides working on the pieces themselves in their own homes, they gather regularly to process their batik together.  They sell their products through a showroom in Bu Hartinah’s house.
